The State Senate controls state spending, raises or lowers state taxes, passing bills on public policy matters, and voting to accept or deny vetoes from the Governor.
Texas law must be approved by both the Texas House of Representatives and Texas Senate.
The Texas Senate only meets on odd-numbered years, and only for 140 days. Therefore, Senators usually have other careers as well.
Our State Senator also represents other counties including: Bowie, Camp, Cass, Franklin, Gregg, Harrison, Lamar, Marion, Morris, Panola, Red River, Rusk, Smith, Titus, Wood, and Upshur.
Senators are elected for 4-year terms, and there are no term limits.
